Golden Fishtank 2 Gigablox is the second game in the Golden Fishtank series, this time improved with the gigablox feature. Find yourself looking at a fish tank where a series of colourful fish help you out, along with wilds, free spins and colossal symbols.

Players that are aware of the original slot by Yggdrasil will find this version from 2021 to be largely the same. The main difference is obviously the gigablox feature, a specific type of colossal symbol. The game has a very bright and energetic look which helps set it apart from other games set below the water surface. Players play on a 5-reel slot with 4 rows and a maximum of 40 paylines.

The game doesn’t really make it obvious that we’re looking at a fish tank. We see corals and air bubbles but the confines of the tank aren’t shown, making it seem like we’re just underwater in the sea. A lot of the slot is moving slightly, with the fish symbols also moving as if they’re swimming. It helps create a realistic setting even as the design is very cartoony.

When it comes to the music, I thought this slot does a great job of setting the mood. It doesn’t go too far with making it sounds watery or anything. We just hear a casual Caribbean-style song play gently in the background. The different sound effects are high quality but not too loud so they completely overwhelm the song. All in all, this works at keeping the player immersed.

Symbols

Golden Fishtank 2 Gigablox unfortunately doesn’t go out of its way to inject any creativity into the symbols. The high-paying symbols are obviously fish while the low-paying symbols are card suits. All of them look great, with attention to detail and the illusion that they have volume. It’s just a bit disappointing that they didn’t go the extra step to add some original symbols into the game.

The game has High Volatility which felt appropriate. You won’t get a lot of big wins very often but they do occur. Besides that, the RTP of 96% is completely average for the volatility so there isn’t anything to say about that. I found my funds to drop very slowly over time, with big wins frequent enough to compensate for my losses without getting me out of a deficit.

To make sure every player can try this game, the slot offers the ability to pick a bet between $0.25 and $100 per spin. This will allow everyone to play the way they feel most comfortable. Either way, players have a shot at winning the maximum jackpot of 5,000x your bet. This is again exactly the average for slots with this volatility.

The following symbols can be found in this slot, from most to least important:

  • Treasure Chest: If the Treasure Chest appears on reel 5 it will instantly award a coin bet or free spins.
  • Free Spins: Get 3 Scatters on the same screen to activate the free spins mode.
  • Wild: Wilds substitute all regular symbols in the game. Max. 20x your bet with six-of-a-kind on a winning bet line.
  • Green and Yellow Fish: Max. 12x your bet with six-of-a-kind on a winning bet line.
  • Orange and White Fish: Max. 10x your bet with six-of-a-kind on a winning bet line.
  • Blue and Teal Fish: Max. 8x your bet with six-of-a-kind on a winning bet line.
  • Pink and Purple Fish: Max. 6x your bet with six-of-a-kind on a winning bet line.
  • Heart: Max. 2x your bet with six-of-a-kind on a winning bet line.
  • Spade: Max. 2x your bet with six-of-a-kind on a winning bet line.
  • Club: Max. 2x your bet with six-of-a-kind on a winning bet line.
  • Diamond: Max. 2x your bet with six-of-a-kind on a winning bet line.

Features

Golden Fishtank 2 Gigablox stays pretty light on the features. While it does have some, I found them mostly concentrated in the free spins mode. The features that exist in the base game are simple and easily explained.

  • Gigablox: Colossal symbols that are at least 2×2 in size. When part of a win they turn into separate symbols.
  • Wilds: Wilds substitute all regular symbols in the game.
  • Bonus Chest: This symbol only appears on reel 5 and always grants a win.
  • Free Spins: Get 3 free spins symbols on the screen to activate the free spins mode.
  • Bonus Picker: At the start of the free spins mode, players get to pick from a number of seashells. These shells hide extra spins, expanding reels and random wilds.

The gigablox feature plays a big part in both the base game and the free spins mode. Unfortunately, I didn’t find them to help in getting wins very frequently. Still, it works as you would expect. The symbols look very good even when they’re massive, with the animations making it look very good.

There is also the treasure chest that can appear on reel 5 in the base game. At this time, players can receive either a coin win or a number of free spins. The coin win can be anywhere from 2 to 500 times your bet or 5, 9 or 16 free spins. During the free spins, this treasure chest can also appear. At that time, it can award a coin win of 2 to 500x your bet and 1 to 5 extra free spins. I didn’t see the chest very often.

I felt like the free spins mode was the most important part of the game. This is solidified by the fact that this mode starts very often. That’s nice, although having to select three seashells every time takes the speed out of it. In some countries, players have the ability to activate this mode manually but it’s not for players from the UK.

Conclusion

Golden Fishtank 2 Gigablox feels like the original version with some extra additions. It’s still a very enjoyable slot. What jumped out at me the most were the graphics. I also thought it was nice how often the free spins mode would activate. The soundtrack isn’t necessarily very original but does fit the setting well.

The different features work together pretty nicely. During the free spins mode, the playing field expands to 6 reels which also increases the number of paylines. The different features present in the base game also appear here. I think many players will enjoy the ability to try and find the best combination of extra features during the bonus game.

Players that enjoy a standard video slot with some extra features will be right at home with this game. The slot doesn’t do that much completely different but the selection of features makes it feel fresh. The volatility is high but it never felt too hard, keeping my funds stable throughout.
