Welcome to Christmas central. Happiest Christmas Tree is a holiday slot bursting with colour and Christmas cheer.

Habanero went all out trying to create the Chistmasiest slot ever made. Happiest Christmas Tree came out right before Christmas in 2018 and boy is this game festive. Everything is colourful and bright, and even the cold snowy air looks warm and welcoming.

The game looks like it’s a postcard scene with a nice slot on top of it. If you are looking for that perfect slot to play in December, then keep on reading. This one made my shortlist and if you are a Christmas person, then it just might make yours as well.

Apart from the theme, this slot is a somewhat typical high-volatility game with few nice features added to the mix. It’s not that innovative, but has a decent balance and potential for big wins. The game is easy to learn and fun to play.

Graphics and sound

Winter wonderland awaits you in Happiest Christmas Tree. The game is made to look like the perfect Christmas scene and it pulls it off. The old-fashioned town is covered in a perfect layer of untouched snow, the garlands and lights are hung on every building and snow is gently falling in the warm light of the street lamps and windows.

The game itself then is much more energetic and unbashful. The toys are colourful and the baubles shine so brightly. Every button and switch is painted with gold and red. There is no question about it, this game is all about Christmas.

The music in the base game is made of two slightly different songs. One is a jazzy song and the other seems to be a homage to The Little Drummer Boy. Both sound nice, but I could always tell when it was time to change. Unfortunately, the sound effects are a bit loud and the toys do make a racket. They often just drown out the music completely.

If you don’t like too much splendour, this slot might be a bit much for you. On the other hand, those of us who like festive games will absolutely love the look of this game.

Symbols and wins

The reels are filled with festive items. There are a total of nine Christmas-themed symbols on the reels and every single one of them looks right. There are no card numbers, no suits or anything non-Christmas related.

The low-tier symbols are baubles and they are a bit more interesting than in other games. You collect them as you play and if you get enough, then you activate the Prize Pot feature for extra cash prizes.

The high-tier symbols are all toys. What is odd about them is their paytable. Like the baubles in a lesser degree, the toys are top-heavy. Three of a single symbol isn’t worth much, but you get huge wins if you get four or five of them.

The only special symbol is the Christmas tree, which is both a wild and a scatter. It substitutes every other symbol on a payline and can activate the Free Games feature. There you get to spin ever-improving reels that keep getting more valuable.

The game’s volatility is high and it is fairly obvious when you take a look at the paytable. Every symbol takes a substantial leap with every extra symbol. The game is also pretty fast, so if you aren’t careful, you just might accidentally play more than you meant to.

Features

Prize Pot: Collect the baubles and win a prize

Even the low-tier baubles are now worth collecting. Every time you win with them, they are collected to the top of the screen. When you have three of every kind, you activate the Prize Pot feature. Collected baubles are tied to your coin value and will be stored if you change it.

When the feature starts, 12 wreaths are brought in. You get to pick the ones you want and when you get three of the same symbol, you win that prize. The prizes are 500x; 1,000x; 2,500x and 10,000x your coin value.

I like this feature, as it makes the low-tier symbols more valuable. Unfortunately, I had a really hard time collecting all the bells. I activated the Free Spin feature five times before I got the required three of them.

Free Games: Sit by the Christmas tree and play for better wins

When you get at least three Christmas trees on the reels, you get to go inside and warm up by the fire. You are also handed 15 free spins, which just keep getting better as you play.

The low-tier symbols keep disappearing from the reels. If you get even a single win with one of them, that symbol is then completely removed from the reels for the rest of the feature. In the end, you will get to spin with reels full of high-tier symbols.

Final Thoughts

When my calendar turns to December, I go and dig up every good Christmas-themed slot and basically play only those for a month. Happiest Christmas Tree is a great addition to this list.

The game is a bit wild and unpredictable, but it’s not excessively volatile. Even if there are some big swings, the game doesn’t revolve around a single feature. You can get a nice win in the base game as well as in the special features.

Happiest Christmas Tree isn’t really an innovative slot, but that’s okay. It has good features which match the theme of the game. In the end, this is a Christmas slot and the theme plays a big role.
