Golden Ticket takes place at a crazy carnival where different characters watch as we try bringing out our own tricks and acrobatics to get some big wins!
This slot was originally created by Play ‘n GO and released in 2014. It’s kept up amazingly well over the years, with a large assortment of unique symbols, animated backgrounds, a special bonus game and more. Where most Play ‘n GO fall into the mediocre level for me, Golden Ticket went above and beyond.
There are not many games I would compare it to, both because of the high level of detail and the unique playing field of 5-reels, 5-rows and no standard paylines. One that definitely springs to mind is NetEnt’s Lost Relics which has a similar playing field as well as a high attention to detail. Meanwhile, Fortune Teller is another Play ‘n GO slot set at the carnival.
The game looks incredible. In the background, we see the carnival tent as well as the bonus game. On the side of the reels is an animated circus character that changes over time, like a strongman or the ringmaster, overseeing us. All the symbols in the game are unique and the characters are lightly animated. It conveys a lot of movement and energy in the slot which really helps bring it to life.
The sound design is on the same level as the visual aspect, with typical carnival sounds. You’ll hear the different attractions play and the murmur of the crowd. Meanwhile, the organ music plays all the time, both during the base and the bonus game. It adds a lot to the total experience to hear the sounds you’d expect from a carnival.
The playing field is made up of several unique symbols. Some of them are characters that can appear on the right side of the screen, others are based on items we might associate with the carnival.
From highest to lowest they are:
As you can tell, there is some mixing and matching possible with these symbols, specifically the different Hat symbols and the different Weight symbols.
The Bonus Game puts us in front of a shooting gallery which has a completely new set of symbols. The goal is to get at least five-of-a-kind on screen for a win, but there can be as many 10 on the screen at the same time.
These symbols are:
These are also wonderfully drawn, even though they only appear in the bonus game and only for a few seconds. It still shows how much attention Play ‘n GO put into this slot.
Golden Ticket has a couple of special features that create a rather unique playing experience. The most obvious one is the non-standard playing field of 5-reels and 5-rows. The other features are:
The base game has a few unique aspects that I haven’t seen in other slots. There are no strict paylines but where other slots with a 5×5 playing fieldwork with clusters, Golden Ticket still requires you to get 3 symbols in a row. This can be either vertically or horizontally. They can’t be more than 3, but the game will count them as two separate paylines of 3 when they are longer. The only way to get a payline of 4 or 5 is with the inclusion of Wilds.
Wilds only appear when there is a winning ‘payline’. The symbols disappear and the Wild is dropped in the middle before the remaining symbols drop down. When this creates a winning payline it will add a new Wild, and so on.
The bonus game appears when 1 reel is fully cleared of symbols and the word BONUS is shown vertically behind it. When that happens, the bonus game starts with 10 free spins. It will place you in front of a shooting gallery where different symbols are shot if there’s 5 or more of them.
You won’t actually be able to do anything during this part, which I thought was a bit of a shame. On the other hand, 10 bonus rounds would be quite a lot of clicking if the player was required to pick all the symbols.
Golden Ticket is one of the best Play ‘n GO slots they have released and in my opinion one of the better slots in general. It has a lot of what I look for in a game, from animated characters to a fitting soundtrack, a special bonus game and a unique gameplay mechanic.
I spent a lot of times just soaking in the atmosphere, enjoying the music and watching the game play itself. The pace is quite high and the Medium Volatility meant it would supply me with a steady stream of wins. The bonus game didn’t trigger extremely often but more than I expected.
It’s possible to bet between $0.20 and $100 per spin which means the wins can be as big or as small as you’d like. Meanwhile, the prospect of a max. win of 20,578x your bet meant that there was something to aim for!
All in all, Golden Ticket was and still remains high on my best-of list, and I would definitely recommend this game to anyone who even slightly likes non-standard slots. It stays close enough to the base experience to stay fun while adding enough new elements to keep it fresh.
You can play Golden Ticket in English, Finnish, Swedish, German and 30 other languages.
Golden Ticket supports GBP, EUR, USD, CAD.

Golden Ticket is a highly volatile slot. This means that it can be very difficult to win, but when you do it can be very rewarding.
