Elemental Princess is a cute-looking Japanese slot that brings us to the blossom covered outdoors of the country. The game includes some standard features and adds Sticky Wilds, Scatter Symbols and Free Spins.

The game was released in 2020 and was developed by Yggdrasil under the DreamTech label. Playing on a 5-reel, 3-row playing field the game offers the symbols enough room to shine but they are rather simplistic. Think of lotus flowers, necklaces and hand mirrors to fill the game, which doesn’t offer a lot of creativity. If you are enamoured by the Japanese cartoon style then you will find it appealing, as it uses characters drawn in that artform.

With an average playing field, the game also includes the average 25 paylines that most slots of this size have. The combination of paylines and features, the number of different symbols and their payouts mean that the game comes down on Medium Volatility. In my experience, this translated into rather frequent small wins and the occasional bigger win.

I felt that the game was rather static because there aren’t a lot of animations, and a lot of the symbols aren’t meant to move on their own. None of the symbols includes human characters since the Elemental Princess from the title only appears when the free spins mode is activated. There are some animations in the background, showing the blossom trees slowly moving in the wind.

Symbols

Elemental Princess features a standard collection of symbols that look sharp and brightly coloured but aren’t anything special. Getting a win will light up the tiles and show the payline briefly before returning to the gameplay. The max. win of the game is 1,667x your bet which is about average for a slot with this volatility.

Players can pick a bet between $0.30 and $150 per spin, allowing them to deal with the volatility the way they prefer. I would suggest starting with a lower size bet to see how often you manage to get a win before deciding to increase them or not. In my experience, the game does grant a regular number of wins and my funds were generally positive.

The symbols you can find in this game include:

  • Scatter: Get 3 Scatter symbols on the screen to activate the free spins mode.
  • Wild: Wilds substitute all regular symbols in the game. Wilds in this game can also come with random features.
  • Mirror: Max. 1,000x your bet with five-of-a-kind on a win line.
  • Ring: Max. 500x your bet with five-of-a-kind on a win line.
  • Earring: Max. 250x your bet with five-of-a-kind on a win line.
  • Necklace: Max. 150x your bet with five-of-a-kind on a win line.
  • Ace: Max. 120x your bet with five-of-a-kind on a win line.
  • King: Max. 120x your bet with five-of-a-kind on a win line.
  • Queen: Max. 90x your bet with five-of-a-kind on a win line.
  • Jack: Max. 90x your bet with five-of-a-kind on a win line.
  • 10: Max. 60x your bet with five-of-a-kind on a win line.
  • 9: Max. 60x your bet with five-of-a-kind on a win line.

Features

Elemental Princess has a big focus on wilds and this comes back in the gameplay a lot. The game features a number of different wilds that can either be activated randomly during the base game, or a particular one is selected to be active during the free spins mode.

First a look at the generic features:

  • Wilds: The game includes wilds which substitute all regular symbols in the game.
  • Free Spins: With 3 Scatter symbols on the screen, the free spins mode is activated. Players receive 10 free spins. Before the free spins begin the game selects a random Wild modifier to be active.

A lot of the game takes place on the main screen, with the free spins mode being rather hard to trigger. Due to the volatility, players will get regular but spaced out wins that will pay back for a number of wins. Don’t expect any big coin wins during this time, but maybe they will keep your funds relatively stable.

Once the free spins mode is triggered, the game will flip through the available wilds to grant one. These wilds include:

  • Spreading Wilds: These wilds will change any adjacent high-paying symbols into wilds.
  • Added Wilds: Up to 10 random wilds are added to the screen. During the free spins mode, random wilds are sticky.
  • Win Multiplier: All wins are multiplied by a 2x, 3x, 5x or 10x multiplier. During the free spins mode, the multiplier starts at 2 and increases by 1 for every Wild on the screen.
  • Floating Mega Wild: A wild that can be 1×2, 2×2, 3×2 or 3×3 in size moves across the screen every spin. Collect additional Wilds to increase its size during the free spins mode.

The different wilds can appear randomly during the base game but they will be completely random. I also found them to be very rare to show up like this. During the free spins mode, they are active every spin and will become stronger as more wilds appear on the screen. This has tremendous possibility but it is impossible to predict if it will pay off.

Conclusion

Elemental Princess is a rather standard-looking slot that looks good but didn’t blow me away. The style reminds me of the manga style that’s popular in Japan without going to heavy into it. The symbols are maybe a bit too simplistic to really feel like they are part of the setting.

The features are the most interesting part of the game. Unfortunately, the features are largely absent during the base game with the different special wilds only appearing very occasionally. Instead, the player needs to activate the free spins mode to feel the full effect of these features. I found all different wilds to be rather interesting but there will obviously be ones that work better than others.

If you are looking for a simple slot with a lot of focus on wilds, this is probably a good pick. The maximum win is quite big for its volatility but it’s unlikely they will hit it. Instead, keeping your funds relatively stable is likely the best you can expect.
