It’s been a while since the zombie virus hit the Earth and now almost all of humanity is gone. But wait – Zombie Lab is still operating and trying to find the cure! You must offer your help to the good people there or face the inevitable fate as a walking dead.
Zombie Lab is a slot game released in 2018 by World Match, though it was produced by Octavian. You see, these two got in a partnership in the same year, so they’re more or less the same thing these days. Anyway, the slot is about a laboratory working hard to come up with a vaccine. It could be the last hope for humankind and time is running out fast. While helping the doctor, you can already hear the zombies moaning just outside the main doors…
Mobile players will be happy to know that this slot is designed “mobile-first”, meaning that it can be played on any mobile device. However, that’s about it for this slot when it comes to the list of pros. Aside from the good mobile experience, Zombie Lab is your basic slot that doesn’t offer anything new for seasoned players. There is a possibility to win up to 100 free spins but, as it is a very hard thing to come across, I doubt it will be enough to attract new spinners.
Zombie Lab is set inside the lab where the odd liquid tanks are making everything glow in sickly yellowish-green. I wonder what exactly is the good doctor using in his experiments…? The highest paying symbols are stained with blood and the lower value symbols are imitating the look of elements of the periodic table.
However, if Zombie Lab wouldn’t be so clearly designed for mobile users (it’s very obvious even when playing on a computer), I would guess this slot was published around 10 years ago. At least the graphics suggest the game to be way older than it is. But, it’s a question of preferences whether you like the style or not. It’s not bad, but it’s far from a look of a modern slot.
The music is a bit too repetitive to my tastes, otherwise well-composed and atmospheric. But, the game effect sounds are just terrible. I managed to play around 50 or so spins until I reached for the mute button. But, to my pleasant surprise, the game has separate sliders for background music and the effects. This is a feature I’d like to see more often.
Zombie Lab has five reels, three rows and 10, 25 or 50 paylines going from left to right.
The game has free spins which can be triggered with three or more Free Spins symbols.

Special symbols:
3 x Free Spins pay 2x your bet per payline
4 x Free Spins pay 20x your bet per payline
5 x Free Spins pay 200x your bet per payline
Note that the paytable lists the wins per payline. With 50 betlines a $1 bet is divided into 2p per line.
You can adjust the paylines by choosing 10, 25 or 50 lines. Naturally, I recommend keeping as many paylines active as possible because it means better odds for winning.
Landing three or more Free Spins symbols awards you with a random number of spins. You can win up to 100 free spins and all winnings from the spins are multiplied by three.
By selecting Quick Spin, you can make the reels spin faster. Note that this also affects the free spins and you can’t deactivate the Quick Spin during free spins.
Zombie Lab is a fairly safe choice for a slot game if you’re not looking for anything special. It has medium volatility and it can pay up to 5,000x your line bet at best – though the RTP could be a tad higher.
While I was playing I noticed that the free spins were more often a disappointment than a fun feature. After managing to trigger the free spins several times, I never won more than 5 spins and the winnings were far from what I was expecting. Instead, I felt like the base game rewarded me better and on a steady basis.
So, technically the game ran smoothly but I found it irritating not to be able to skip the slower spin where the game waits for one more Free Spin symbol. Even enabling the Quick Spin mode didn’t help here.
For me, Zombie Lab falls under the category “Give or take”. It’s easy to play, but way too basic to keep my interest for long. The idea of 100 free spins is pretty nice, but the harsh reality is it’s something I suspect never seeing. And when the base game pays you more surely and better than multiple rounds of free spins, it does affect the motivation for trying to win free spins.
In conclusion, a nice slot, the balance might be slightly off and it could do with more interesting features.
