Launched in the summer of 2021, Wild Drops promises vast riches to brave and bold explorers. The slot looks great, as all Betsoft slots do. It also employs interesting mechanics with its 16 paylines that pay from either right to left or left to right. The premise certainly feels fresh but the high volatility mixed with a 96.11% RTP and a max win of 4,400x might raise a few eyebrows.
Wild Drops is a 5-reel, 8-column slot with cascading tiles. When a winning combination happens, the titles on top will fall and replace the winning titles. Unlike other slots, extra tiles do not come into play like the usual cascading slots. Instead, tiles fall to their place and leave missing tile spaces at the top. Newly formed combinations will payout and the cascade will continue until there are no more combinations.
Whilst symbols are all beautifully designed you will need to turn up the sound on this one. Playing the game without any of the sound effects will leave you feeling tepid.
Set within a dark mine filled with all sorts of gems, all symbols take the shapes of various shiny rocks and minerals.
The symbols, from highest to the lowest consist of:
Behind every gem, there is the possibility of finding a gold coin whenever a winning combination is registered. Find a total of 5 gold coins and the free spins round will be triggered. A total of 5 free spins are awarded during the bonus round which comes with a reel of wilds bang on in the middle of the grid.
If the grid is cleared from all gems the win is multiplied by 5. If this happens during the bonus game then all wins from free spins are multiplied by 10.
It took me a while to get used to this slot. Such slots normally payout when clusters are formed. Here, lines from either left or right create wins. However, I kept seeing clusters being formed. I thought I’d get over this if I continued playing. But I didn’t. It kept jarring and as I went on and the wins were miserable most of the time, this got me pretty frustrated.
Getting into the bonus round isn’t too hard and it will always come as a surprise. The bonus coins that you need for the bonus round are hidden behind tiles. So your best bet at a bonus round is when most of the tiles are cleared from the grid.
The bonus round itself was disappointing. I only managed a 28x and a 52x win. Since wins on the base game were so rare I sort of expected the bonus round to blow my mind. This didn’t happen. The only time I felt some excitement in this slot is when I managed a 55x win in the base game. Mind you, these wins are rare and you will have to wait for a few spins before anything of significance actually happens. All in all, such volatility deserves a better bonus round. The bonus round in Wild Drops just doesn’t cut it.
