Darkness has fallen over Las Vegas and the vampires are out to feed. Will you escape with the riches or be their prey?

Foxium released Vampire the Masquerade: Las Vegas in late 2017. The game looks amazing, but surprisingly, it wasn’t an instant hit. One reason for this may be that this is not your average slot. This is a story-driven dark experience, which rewards you for playing longer.

If you have ever played a Foxium slot, then you kinda know what you are in for. The developer always goes the extra mile to make the game feel special. In this case, they really took advantage of the Vampire license from White Wolf.

The game is filled with a lot of features and bonuses, which give it some nice depth. This is a slot you need to take your time with and not just rush in and play a few coins.

If you like vampires, or even better, are a fan of World of Darkness, then you must check this slot out. No questions, just see it for yourself.

Graphics and sound

Foxium has done an amazing job with this slot. The visuals and soundscape are wonderful. They set the mood and tell a story at the same time.

The city of lights now bathes in darkness. The heavy rain and thunderous skies have driven the curious eyes of tourists away. It is time to feed and what better place than the streets of Sin City, a place where anything goes.

I can’t stress it enough, this slot is gorgeous. The developer has taken a lot from the source material and didn’t just half-ass it. The clan symbols are not there just for show, but they have a deeper meaning if you know what you are looking for.

For those of you who know about White Wolf’s World of Darkness, I have good news. Foxium did their homework. If you pay attention, you can see the iron grip of Camarilla holding order in the city. The dark city is still under the rule of a Ventrue prince, who alongside the Nosferatu and the Tremere are keeping the city in check. The power struggle with the Giovanni is looming and a large Ravnos presence is not making things easy.

Symbols and wins

There will be no shortage of symbols in this slot, on the contrary. There are nine regular symbols, a wild, a Pick Me scatter and two tall special symbols. Not to mention the fact that the wins change depending on if you are still in the base game or in the Free Spin feature.

The regular symbols are divided into two groups, the criminal investigation and the vampire clans. The symbols of clan Ventrue, Tremere, Nosferatu, Giovanni and Ravnos are the low-tier symbols and video surveillance footage, wanted posters, crime scene investigation and blood bags are the high-tier ones.

The vampire and his prey are the two tall special symbols. They both can appear only once on the reels and will only give you a win if they are completely visible. If both are visible at the same time, you get a bigger win and an extra boost of blood or discipline. Those are there to activate the Free Spin feature.

The Pick Me symbol is a whole different special feature. It is a scatter symbol that activates the Pick Me bonus game if you get at least three of them at once. The bonus game tells the story of a faithful night, where you try to play your cards right.

Now that we have covered the basics, it is time to look at the wins. I don’t blame you if you are already lost. This game is full of features and it might just be easier to go spin it a few times and see how the game plays out.

The game has medium volatility and will hand out a lot of low wins. Unfortunately, this slot also has somewhat low wins all around. The free spins are the best place to get something bigger, but even then, winning 200x your wager is considered a large win.

One thing to note is that this game requires you to play for a while. You won’t get far if you only have a couple of coins to spare. Here you build up your special features rather than hit them randomly.

Features

  • Pick Me Bonus: A willing preys are easy pickings

Three Pick Me scatters activate the bonus feature. Now you get to follow the story and hope you’ll play your cards right. Pick a card from the hand and try not to hit the skulls. If you can make it to the end without the prey escaping, you get an extra cash prize.

  • Blood and Discipline: Gather strength and hone your skills

When the vampire and his prey meet on the reels, you will get a boost to either your blood or your discipline tracker. How much you get is random every time.

When either one is filled, you activate the free spins feature. Both are completely drained and you get to see how many spins you get and what is the multiplier. The more blood you had, the more spins you get and the higher your discipline was, the higher your multiplier will be.

The blood and discipline trackers are locked to your wager. If you change your wager, that new bet level will have its own trackers. If you go back, you get to continue where you left off.

  • Free Spins: Three different skills to power up your spins

When either your blood or your discipline tracker is filled completely, you get to activate the Free Spins feature. How much you in each, will determine how many spins you get and what is the multiplier for them. If the blood tracker was filled, you get 15 spins and discipline in turn will give you 6x wins.

When the free spins start, you first get a random discipline, or vampire power, to use. There are three options and each will alter how the wild symbols work during the spins.

  • Dominate: Dominate can clone wilds. If the prey is fully visible on the last reel, it will be copied to reels 2, 3 and 4, and then of them are turned into wilds.
  • Fortitude: Slash in more wilds with fortitude. At the start of every spin, the vampire will reveal 1-6 random wilds.
  • Presence: Control the wilds. The free spins will start with four wild symbols randomly placed on the reels. Between spins, the vampire will move them to new random locations.

Final Thoughts

Vampire the Masquerade: Las Vegas is a gorgeous game and right up my alley. I just love to sit down and have a good, long session with a slot like this. There is no need to rush things and you can just take your time.

Playing this game feels a bit different, as it is a slow-and-steady type of a slot. The game will give you a lot of small wins and those do come in handy. It takes a while to fill the meters and start the best features. At the same time, all the wins from this game are relatively low. Getting a big hit from the free spins isn’t going to rock your world. It’s going to be a decent-sized win, but not a jackpot.

The best part of this game is the story and the audiovisual experience. The game actually tells a story and a one that I was interested in hearing.

If you are a fan of White Wolf’s Vampire universe or just happen to love vampire fiction, then this game is for you. The slot has so much to offer to a fan and this is why I love it so much.
