Undine’s Deep is set in the dark blue depths of the ocean as we are introduced to this hidden world by the mermaid Undine. The game features Free Spins, multipliers and special Multiplier Wilds to make our trip a pleasant one!

This slot was released in 2014 by developer Endorphina, making it quite old. I did find the graphics to look quite dated, with the symbols losing their sharpness and them not being as detailed as we’ve come to expect. The design does do a good job placing us deep into the ocean, showing us the faint outlines of a coral reef in the background while the high-paying symbols are different things we’d find in the ocean.

The mermaid Undine is the game’s main focus, both when it comes to the symbols as well as the art. The different animals found in the slot are slightly animated when part of one of the 10 paylines that make up the 5-reel, 3-row playing field. Unfortunately, the developers decided to fill up the rest of the game with regular card letters. I felt this detracted from the setting of the slot for obvious reasons.

There is no real music to speak of in Undine’s Deep, only when the game hits a win with a high-paying symbols does it play a short sound file. The regular wins involve a lot of beeps. Only Undine being part of a win involves music that sounds slightly related to the ocean. All in all, I was left unimpressed.

Symbols

Undine’s Deep has a selection of symbols that alter between the regular low-paying symbols and the high-paying ones that are originals. The animals are all created with graphic design software, seemingly between hand-drawn and 3D sculpted. This makes them look rather flat and lifeless. The sharpness of the images has also started to drop a bit, which is unfortunate.

The game has a Low Volatility with wins being somewhat regular but also being rather low payouts. I found that anything longer than three-of-a-kind was very unlikely. Still, most symbols pay out more than the initial bet so you’re bound to make some coins over time. In my experience, the volatility was low but this meant that I lost funds as I played for longer. It was only through the free spins mode that I was able to get some bigger wins that evened things out.

The symbols in Undine’s Deep include:

  • Undine (Scatter): Get 3 Scatter Symbols to activate the free spins mode. Max. 500x your bet with five-of-a-kind on the screen.
  • Goldfish (Wild): Substitute all symbols in the game except the Scatter Symbol. Max. 900x your bet with five-of-a-bet on a winning bet line.
  • Starfish: Max. 75x your bet with five-of-a-bet on a winning bet line.
  • Coral: Max. 75x your bet with five-of-a-bet on a winning bet line.
  • Jellyfish: Max. 40x your bet with five-of-a-bet on a winning bet line.
  • Seahorse: Max. 25x your bet with five-of-a-bet on a winning bet line.
  • Clamshell: Max. 25x your bet with five-of-a-bet on a winning bet line.
  • Ace: Max. 12.5x your bet with five-of-a-bet on a winning bet line.
  • King: Max. 12.5x your bet with five-of-a-bet on a winning bet line.
  • Queen: Max. 10x your bet with five-of-a-bet on a winning bet line.
  • Jack: Max. 10x your bet with five-of-a-bet on a winning bet line.
  • 10: Max. 10x your bet with five-of-a-bet on a winning bet line.
  • 9: Max. 10x your bet with five-of-a-bet on a winning bet line.

The payouts for every win are rather high, but this drops of rather quickly for shorter wins. It makes it that regular three-of-a-kind wins are only slightly about the bet per spin. Players can choose a bet between $0.01 and $100, with a max. win of 9,000x your bet as a possibility to keep people interested.

Features

Undine’s Deep is a slot without a lot of features. This keeps the gameplay quick and simple, perfect for players that enjoy something easy to get into they can quit whenever they feel they’re done playing.

The features in the game include:

  • Wilds: Wilds substitute all other symbols in the game, except the Scatter symbol.
  • Free Spins: Get 3 Scatter symbols on the screen to activate the Free Spins mode with 15 free spins. Re-triggering extra spins is possible.
  • Multiplier: All wins during the Free Spins mode have a 2x multiplier applied to them.

The features are likely already something most players are aware of and they function exactly the same here. The Wilds showed up semi-regularly but not frequently enough to really feel like they were part of the game. They did often help in creating a win, however, which was nice.

The Free Spins mode triggered rarely but when it did it was often a source of big wins. The game is quite liberal in granting extra free spins. Whenever 3 Scatter Symbols appear during the Free Spins mode, the player receives an additional 15 free spins. As a result, I had times where I had more than 100 free spins in a single free spins mode. With the 2x multiplier applied to all wins, you can imagine the size of the total win.

Other than that, Undine’s Deep offers little in terms of variation of the gameplay. I found the auto spin function to be perfectly suitable here. Make sure that the bet size is appropriate to what you’re willing to spend and you can also use it with little worry.

Conclusion

Even though it’s an older game, Undine’s Deep still offers a solid gameplay experience. The main downside is that the game is also rather unremarkable. The graphics feel outdated, there is practically no sound and the features are simple and very common.

Players that are looking for something original won’t find it here, and the power players that are looking for something that might offer them big rewards won’t be that enticed with this slot either. Even though the jackpot is quite huge, I never felt like I was close to winning it which made me ignore it completely.

I don’t think Undine’s Deep is going to hook in a lot of players. There is simply not enough to find here that will get people invested.
