The Glam Life is an older slot developed by Betsoft that shows us a taste of what life could be like if someone wins the jackpot. The game offers a rather standard experience with free spins, a bonus game and paylines that count both ways.
This slot was released way back in 2010 and even though the graphics are still sharp and detailed, the flat textures of the 3D models have begun to show their age. The game does offer a series of animations which is something that I appreciate, as even modern slots don’t always include those. The game features a total of 25 paylines that run both ways, making it essentially double. Players use a standard 5-reel, 3-row playing field to play on.
All of the symbols represent some sort of opulence, from various items one would buy to things that we can use to buy them with. The game doesn’t really make it clear which symbols are worth the most, we will have to dive into the paytable for that. I did appreciate there were no card letters or card suits, given that they wouldn’t really fit the theme. The game doesn’t have a background, which could have been used to set the stage a little more.
The music is about on par with what you’d expect from a slot that’s more than a decade old. The quality isn’t very good and we can hear a lot of artefacts that make it sound a lower quality than is appropriate for the setting. The sound effects are at least appropriate when one of the bonus games is triggered, hearing how the private plane takes off and flies across the world.
The Glam Life offers a wide variety of symbols that all depict different elements people associate with a lavish life. This ranges from private jets and villas to diamond rings and champagne. Even though the graphics aren’t exactly up-to-date, they still look sharp and detailed and are colourful enough to keep it interesting. Using different shapes and different backgrounds helps keep them easily distinguishable.
The symbols in the game include:
There aren’t a lot of symbols in the game but to compensate the payouts aren’t the best and the features won’t be extremely helpful in getting wins. As a result, the slot has Medium Volatility. Players are able to pick a bet between $0.02 and $125 per spin, and a truly massive max. win of 200,000x your bet.
The Glam Life gives players a rather unique experience since most of the usual features aren’t here but instead, they can benefit from a free spins mode and 3 different types of bonus games. Even though all these bonus games function almost the same, they are triggered differently and play in different ways.
The Free Spins mode and the bonus games are all triggered by getting the right number of specific symbols on the screen at the same time. Because of this, the base game does not really offer any opportunities to get big wins on its own. There are no wilds, no multipliers, no stacked reels or any other features one might find in other slots.
The game will occasionally allow the right symbol to appear 3 or more times so the associated feature is activated, but this is not controllable by the player and might happen rarely. Since the base game offers no other ways to get big wins, the player is very dependent on this happening.
Once a bonus game is triggered, players will walk away with a guaranteed coin win, but in my experience, this doesn’t have to be a lot. With a standard bet costing 25 coins, walking away with 100 coins after finally activating a bonus game is not enough to make back your bet.
The game does offer a jackpot, but the only way to win this is to play with the maximum bet per spin and getting 5 scatter symbols on the screen at the same time. Only the most dedicated power players will ever be able to attempt this.
The Glam Life is an older slot that aged remarkably well. The graphics don’t really hold up compared to newer slots, but putting it next to other slots of the same time period they are a lot better. They also convey the theme and setting well, which might be the most important part.
The features are very hit-or-miss. Players either appreciate the strict clarity of what is happening or they don’t. Random wins won’t be helped by getting a Wild in the right place or have a multiplier applied, instead the game relies fully on activating one of the bonus games to grant a coin win.
If you are looking for a rather standard game experience with a flashy theme and a bunch of bonus games, The Glam Life might be for you. However, unless you’re a power player I would not hold out for the jackpot.
