Le Mystere du Prince is the inexplicably French title of a slot that seems to be based on the very popular fairytale of the Beauty and the Beast. This slot features Wilds, Pays Both Ways as well as a special free spins mode!
Zeus Play released this slot in 2015 as a 5-reel, 3-row slot with a distinct theme, namely the Beauty and the Beast fairy tale that was written more than a hundred years ago. The graphics, unfortunately, did not age well, although I did appreciate that there was some creativity shown in the design of the different symbols.
The game has a total of 10 paylines but with the Pays Both Ways feature it essentially doubles the possibility to get a win. The background shows us the inside of what appears to be the Beast’s castle, while during the Free Spins mode we find ourselves out in the forest. The different symbols are only slightly animated but again, I appreciated the effort as it brings some life to the game.
The music and sounds seem to be an ongoing problem for the developer as the music is loud and jarring when it’s not interrupted every time the reels stop spinning. It comes across as a cacophony of sound and does not get the player into the right mood at all.
The symbols of Le Mystere du Prince are divided into the usual high- and low-paying symbols that we find in most slots. The low-paying symbols are card letters in a normal font and with some distinct colours. They are easy to tell apart but they lose points on creativity. There isn’t any kind of effort made to make them fit the setting.
The high-paying symbols are a lot better in that regard even though they have started to look very outdated. Symbols include the Beast and Belle, as well as various items to be found in the castle. The graphics aren’t sharp anymore and playing the game on a larger screen definitely makes it look terrible.
You’ll find the following symbols in this game:
The game has a Medium Volatility due to the larger number of symbols on the one hand and the features that balance it out on the other. I found the game to lose me coins over time though, lacking any sort of big payout because the Free Spins mode seemed to be difficult to get into.
The player is able to choose a bet between $0.10 and $30, with a maximum win of 14,718x your bet to look out for. It’s quite a crazy size win for a slot, especially considering other Zeus Play slots that were released around the same time.
Le Mystere du Prince offers the players a few features to change up the gameplay. The features include:
The game is extremely basic when it comes to its features, with none of them feeling especially unique. Even the combination of features has been shown in a lot of different slots. The Wilds showed up regularly enough to feel like a part of the slot but the extra 2x multiplier was a nice addition.
In contrast, the Free Spins mode felt extremely rare and only triggered a handful of times as I played. As far as I could find out, the player starts with 10 free spins regardless of the number of Scatter symbols on the screen. It is possible to win extra free spins during this mode with another 3 Scatter Symbols on the screen. One time, this happened multiple times in a row as I played.
There are some other extra features that make the Free Spins mode the highlight of the game. The 3x multiplier to all wins is an important one as it makes the coin wins a lot bigger, even if the player doesn’t get too many wins. Another element is that the paylines now count from left to right and vice versa.
In my experience, the Free Spins mode is a good way to get some coins back but the game mode triggered a little too infrequently to really feel like a part of the slot. It really depends on the play.
Le Mystere du Prince is based on a popular fairy tale while pretending it isn’t, never referring to the characters outright or making it too obvious that it is based on the story. This is already a big plus compared to other Zeus Play slots from that time period as they often don’t show much character.
When it comes to the features you won’t be surprised if you have any experience with slots at all, but the combination is a popular one because it works so well. There are plenty of things to do as the game plays, with the free spins mode being the standout.
Players that are looking for something new or want a game that looks extra detailed, they won’t find it with Le Mystere du Prince. People who just want a simple but stable slot with an interesting free spins mode will probably get enough for what they want.
