The T-Rex is so last year; it’s time to meet the Indominus Rex in Microgaming’s Jurassic World slot. Step onto Isla Nublar and encounter the beloved characters from the 2015 blockbuster film in this 5-reel, 3-column game featuring 243 paylines.
While there are ferocious dinosaurs around every corner, vast riches await players in the bonus feature. The Indominus Rex can even bring a very pleasant and unexpected surprise.
If you’re a fan of the movie, you won’t be disappointed with this slot. Microgaming has done an outstanding job translating the movie brand into their slots. Here are the highlights of Jurassic World.
The high-paying symbols are represented by your favorite Jurassic World characters, while the low-paying symbols are the most famous dinosaurs from the movie.
The symbols, from highest to lowest, consist of:
Unlike in Jurassic Park, there is no animation when a win is registered, but the movie clip animation still appears whenever a large win occurs.
Landing 3 or more scatters will trigger the bonus round. There are 3 free spins features randomly awarded: Gyrosphere Valley, Creation Lab, and Raptor Den. Each bonus round starts with 10 free spins.
In the Gyrosphere Valley, the multiplier will increase on every non-winning spin. When a win is registered, it resets. The round can only end on a winning spin.
In the Creation Lab, winning symbols are removed to make way for new ones, and this continues until no more wins are registered. Any Wilds that appear are iced in and will stay for 3 wins.
When in the Raptor Den, all scatters are wild, and they are held until they award additional free spins. Three or more scatters award another 5 free spins. Instead of the respin feature being randomly awarded, the player will be able to choose which bonus feature to play out in the Raptor Den.
In the base game, there is a chance for the Indominus Rex to make an appearance. When it does, it will award a random multiplier up to 1,000x the win.
While the Jurassic World movie couldn’t match up to Jurassic Park, this slot falls short when compared to the Jurassic Park slot, especially now that it has been remastered. Microgaming did an amazing job with the original slot, and although some elements feature in Jurassic World, it doesn’t really live up to its predecessor.
That’s not to say this isn’t an enjoyable game to play. If taken on its own, the slot is a good representation of the movie. Mechanically, it has medium volatility and a nice max win of 14,166x. However, the RTP is set quite low at 95.45% compared to other similar slots.
I enjoyed the scatter tiles turning into wilds during the base game, especially as they managed to create a few 5-of-a-kind combinations. The bonus rounds aren’t too hard to trigger, but I would prefer being able to choose which feature to play out in the bonus round rather than having it randomly assigned.
What blew my mind was the surprise appearance of the Indominus Rex – the star of this slot. When it appeared, it made me jump, and even though it only brought with it a 10x multiplier, the 44x win was very much appreciated.
In conclusion, Jurassic World is a good slot game that is worth playing, but it doesn’t quite live up to the high expectations set by its predecessor, Jurassic Park.
