Based on an old Russian fairytale, Ivan and the Immortal King will transport you to a land of mystery and magic. Adventure awaits around every corner in this 5-reel, 3-row slot with 20 pay lines. You will come face to face with beautiful maidens, mischievous witches and fearful kings. But, if you make it to the end of your journey, vast riches await.

The story revolves around Slavic chap Ivan Tsaverich. His ultimate goal is to defeat the immortal King Koschei. But the king’s life force is said to be well hidden. Inside a needle, that is in an egg, which is in a duck, that is in a hare, which is in a chest. Only when the needle is broken can the Immortal King be defeated.

Quickspin has pulled out all the stops on this slot, that’s high volatility with an exciting story to match. There is an enchanting max win of the 12,402x and plenty of features along the way to keep you entertained. The slot is set in an enchanted forest. To the forefront, the symbols have been beautifully designed to fit the theme. The background music too perfectly fits the fairytale theme with FX to match. Aesthetically, this slot is the whole package.

The high-paying symbols take the form of the protagonists of the story together with their creatures. The lower-paying symbols are represented by shiny jewels.

The symbols, from highest to the lowest consist of:

  • The scatter chest tile appears on all 5 reels. With 3 scatters the free spins round is triggered awarding 10, 14 or 18 spins depending on the number of scatters on the reels.
  • The Wild tile substitutes for all symbols bar the scatter. 5 wilds on the reels will yield 100x.
  • Ivan yields 100x with 5-of-a-kind on a payline.
  • The Immortal King yields 50x with 5-of-a-kind on a payline.
  • The maiden yields 37.5x with 5-of-a-kind on a payline.
  • The wolf yields 22.5x with 5-of-a-kind on a payline.
  • The dragon yields 15x with 5-of-a-kind on a payline.
  • The red and blue gems yield 6.25x with 5-of-a-kind on a payline.
  • The green, yellow and purple gems yield 5x with 5-of-a-kind on a payline.

  • Free Spins

The free spins round is triggered when 3 or more chests appear on the reels. With 3 scatters the spins will start at chest level with no multipliers. With 4 chests, you will be awarded 14 spins, start on the Hare level and receive a 2x multiplier. With 5 chests you will be awarded 18 free spins, you’ll start on the Duck level with a 3x multiplier.

  • Free Spins Progression – During the free spins round, there are 6 levels to climb. Each level will increase the multiplier and offer 4 extra free spins. To progress through the levels you will need to land the Progress Scatter symbols on the reels. Three Progress Scatters are needed to progress a level.
    • The Chest level – 1x – 10 spins
    • The Hare level – 2x – 14 spins
    • The Duck level – 3x – 18 spins
    • The Egg level – 5x – 22 spins
    • The needle level – 10x – 26 spins
    • The death of the king – 20x – 30 spins
  • Baba Yaga Surprise

Baba Yaga is the story’s witch and she can show up either during the base game or the free spins round. Catch her in a good mood and she will help you on your journey by changing 4 adjacent random symbols. Whenever she appears there are two possible outcomes.

In the base game, the four symbols can either change into a Scatter symbol thus triggering the free spins round or they can turn into a symbol on the reels guaranteeing a win. If Bana Yaga appears during the free spins round then the symbols can be changed into either Progress Scatters or another symbol on the reels guaranteeing a win.

It had been a while since I played some Quickspin slots and this game was a reminder of the quality the studio manages to bring to the table. I’m not a big fan of such highly volatile slots and believe me, this one is volatile. But I still enjoyed my time playing Ivan and the Immortal King.

The reels are full of high paying symbols so I was able to get a few good wins in the base game. However, it did take me a long time to enter the bonus round. Once I did I only managed a 77x win which was rather disappointing considering what I had spent. But you can really see where the potential to win big is. I managed to get up to 10x in the bonus round but the last 4 spins didn’t yield any big wins.

The potential is there and I can see this game being enjoyed by the more seasoned slot players out there. Although considering the theme, aesthetics and music are so well thought out, I can also see casual players enjoying this slot, maybe playing at slightly lower stakes.
