It’s time to get looting and pillaging with the mighty Vikings! Set sail with the fearsome Dragon Ship, but keep an eye on those storm clouds…

Dragon Ship is a slot, published by Play ‘n GO in 2012. It’s a simple, yet entertaining game with free spins worth pursuing. It has the kind of raw and crude charm, which fits a Viking-themed slot marvellously. While it’s not as sleek and fine-tuned as the modern games we see today, Dragon Ship is still an attractive slot which can reward the player quite handsomely.

The slot is highly volatile with an RTP which could definitely do better, but it’s the free spins of Dragon Ship that makes it worth a try.

Graphics & sound

You will definitely feel like stepping on a Viking ship! On a desktop game, the background is a restless sea – which I can’t be sure if its a real video or a computer-generated scene. The ship is creaking and wailing as it sails forward, despite the ominous-looking sky.

The first thing I noticed with Dragon Ship is the lack of background music. There are only the creaking of the floorboards and some short fanfares after a winning spin. While the game offers the option for doubling up, there is a sound of drums beating rhythmically.

I don’t mind the game not having any music per se, but I would love to be able to disable some of the sound effects and just listen to the sounds of the ship.

The graphics of Dragon Ship are a bit basic, but remembering the slot is from 2012, it still doesn’t look too shabby for its age. I like how the symbols and the stacked Wilds are styled to fit the theme, and how it rains during the free spins.

Dragon Ship Slot Win Combination

Symbols & wins

Dragon Ship has five reels, three rows and 15 paylines. The minimum wager is 1p per payline, so a single spin is worth 15p at the lowest. Aside from the normal symbols, the game has Bonus symbols and stacked Wilds. The Bonus symbols appear on reels 1, 3 and 5, while the stacked Wilds can only be seen on reels 1 and 5.

In theory, the easiest way to fish those big wins are by winning the free spins. During the free spins, the stacked Wilds are sticky and always covering the first and the last reel. Because of this, the winning symbols have better odds to land on two paylines simultaneously.

Features

During the free spins, the stacked Wilds stick to their place, covering the reels 1 and 5. Sadly, it’s not possible to re-trigger the free spins.

Dragon Ship Slot Free Spins Feature

The bonus game is activated by landing three golden chests on reels 1, 3 and 5. Then it’s your turn to choose one of them, and collect the prize. Every chest has a coin win inside, so you’re guaranteed to win something, even as much as 150x your bet.

After every winning spin, you can try to multiply your winnings. By choosing Double up instead of Collect, you get a face-down card. If you want to try to double your win, guess the colour of the card (red or black) right. If you want to take a bigger risk, guess which suit the card is and get a 4x multiplier.

Final Thoughts

Like a true Viking, Dragon Ship can be cruel, but also very generous. Sometimes it’s unbelievably hard to trigger either the bonus game or the free spins, but when they do happen they can indeed be worth the effort.

The game reminds me a bit of the other older Play ‘n GO slots, like Myth and Wild Blood. Usually, if I’m in the mood playing classics from the said provider, Dragon Ship is pretty much at the top of the list with those two. Don’t ask me to explain why – it’s just something with old slots that still draw me to them instead of playing newer ones.
