Gather your offerings and pray for your own Divine Fortune. This progressive jackpot grows up to a six-figure sum.
NetEnt’s Divine Fortune was released in 2017 and it had some big shoes to fill. It bears the legendary name Fortune, which has always been more of a title, than just a name. It is the name that is given to a massive progressive jackpot game.
Divine Fortune resembles NetEnt’s previous jackpot game, Cosmic Fortune. Both have medium-sized jackpots and similar features. They have both been a common choice in casinos that don’t offer the huge jackpot games but still have some big NetEnt games available.
Divine Fortune is a standard five-reel slot with 20 paylines. It has a medium volatility and features a hair above average 96.59% RTP. The game is filled with features, though they are not that innovative and experimental.
Being a jackpot game, you can’t just blindly stare at those numbers and expect a steady flow of wins. Progressive games often have relatively high RTPs, but feel a lot smaller when you play them.
Divine Fortune feels to me like a mixed bag. Sure, the game is pretty and the visuals are focused around the theme, but at the same time, it’s something we have seen before many times. For a game from 2017, I would have expected something more. This would have looked great if it was three years older, but at this point, you need to do better.
I feel like this game was built mechanics first and theme second. All the effort went to creating a game that has a lot of features and multiple jackpots.
Don’t get me wrong, this game isn’t ugly. It just isn’t anything special. You won’t hate the graphics or the music, but you are not going to be wowed by it.
The theme is well represented with the symbols. There are four mythological beasts as the high paying symbols, the Medusa, the Minotaur, the Nemean Lion and the Griffin. As the low paying symbols, you have four card numbers. One great thing I need to point out is that the ace is actually alpha from the Greek alphabet. This was a nice touch.
There are three special symbols. The Pegasus as the wild, Zeus’ lightning as the free spin symbol and the gold coin as the bonus symbol.
The paytable is fairly balanced, and even the low paying symbols can give you some nice wins. This is a jackpot game, so we need to keep in mind that the huge wins are going to skew the balance a bit towards the top end. You can encounter long dry spells, where you just don’t win anything.
The lowest scoring symbol is the jack, which has a 60 coin win for the full five symbols, and the Medusa on the other end hands out 600 coins.
Divine Fortune is filled with special features, so you have a chance of getting a lot of combo wins. The falling wilds and the free spins can give a nice surprise for just one spin.
Falling Wilds will let you win multiple times with just one spin. If you get a wild symbol on the reels, it will activate the Falling Wilds Re-spin. First, you will get all the wins from your initial spin. Then the wild symbols will fall one position on the reels and start a free re-spin. This will continue until there are no wild symbols visible.
The wild Pegasus symbols have a chance to expand. If a new wild symbol lands behind a falling wild, the Wild on Wild feature activates. The affected wild expands to fill the entire reel. The new expanded wild will then continue to fall normally for as long as it is visible.
Divine Fortune has a dedicated Free Spin symbol. This is a scatter symbol, so it doesn’t matter where they show up. If you get at least three of them at once, you activate free spins. The more you get, the more spins you will receive. Three symbols give out 5 spins, four hand out 8 spins and five symbols will reward you with 12 free spins.
The Jackpot Bonus Game is activated when you collect three bonus symbols in a vase. The collected bonus symbols are then placed in the reels before the start of the bonus game. Each symbol has a random cash value between 10-200x your bet. You get to spin the reels four times and hope that the remaining empty spaces get filled with more coins.
To win a jackpot, you need to fill the rows with bonus symbols. Get one full row of symbols and you win the Minor Jackpot, fill two rows for the Major Jackpot, and if you fill all three rows, you have just won the Mega Jackpot.
To win a jackpot, you need to hit the Jackpot Bonus Game and fill the rows with bonus symbols. You can win every jackpot with any bet, but there is a better chance of winning if you play with a higher bet size.
All jackpots are unique to that casino, as this is not a networked game. The progressive Mega Jackpot is seeded at $10,000. Major and Minor are static jackpots.
Divine Fortune is an all-around fine game for me. It’s not great, but just fine. There is nothing inherently wrong about it, but it is just something I have seen done already so many times.
If this game had come out, say, three years earlier, it would have gotten a lot more praise. In 2017, the slot market was already highly saturated with great games, and the requirements were a lot higher. It is not that big of a surprise that Divine Fortune wasn’t the runaway hit that NetEnt would have wanted it to be.
If you want to go for a progressive jackpot and the big ones aren’t available, then Divine Fortune is a nice choice. If I had to choose between Divine Fortune and something like Mega Fortune Dreams, I would probably go for Dreams 99 times out of a 100.
