Zombies have risen and are after you. This slot is full of useful undead and a huge Free Spin feature with massive wins.

Pragmatic Play has improved over the years as a developer and are now making amazing games one after the other. These games not only look great, but have interesting and innovative features as well.

Wild Walker was released on the brink of Halloween 2020, and there would have been no better time of the year to do so. This is a horror-themed slot full of blood and gore. I would like to say that this is not a game for kids, but it’s a slot, so it’s not for kids by default.

The name of the game is also a clever detail. It’s obviously a reference to walkers, a type of shambling zombie, but it also lets you know what kind of a feature the slot has. There is an ever-present Wild Walker on the reels which is a full-reel wild.

Pragmatic Play added a nice little detail to the settings menu as well. This game looks a bit heavy and battery-intensive, but you don’t need to worry if you play on a mobile device. There is a battery saver option that will reduce the animation and make the game lighter.

Graphics and sound

Wild Walker is a horror-themed slot, which takes a lot of influence from films and tv-series like the Walking Dead. These are not your comical 80s zombies, but your dangerous and gruesome modern ones. If you like some undead action, then keep reading. This slot is for you.

This game has a lot going on both visually and mechanically. Pragmatic Play went all-out with the design and animation on Wild Walker. The flaming cars and thunderstorms in the background give you a feel of constant dread and looming danger. The animation doesn’t end there, as the walkers on the reels are beautifully done.

The same high quality can also be heard. The music and sound effects are good, but when you compare good with great, one is weaker than the other. I would have wanted the music to be even grander. This slot is non-stop action, but the music is just somewhat action. If you stop spinning the reels even for a little while, you start hearing the stand-by music, which is a short and unimaginative loop.

Luckily, Pragmatic Play has added a lot of options when it comes to sound. You can adjust the master volume or mute either the sound effects or the music. This way you can add your own music if you have something better.

Symbols and wins

Zombies are crawling on the reels with dead eyes and their guts hanging out. Fortunately, these walkers aren’t all bad. They are actually quite beneficial for you.

The regular symbols in this game are a bit boring. You got your standard card numbers and then a group of survivors and their gear. The card numbers are all equal in value, and the rest have a surprisingly linear pay structure.

The interesting part of Wild Walker is the special symbols and features. All zombies are full-reel wilds and the shuffle around looking for flesh. There is always at least one zombie present and in some cases up to four.

There is one symbol you want to see as much as possible and that is the Bonus symbol, which technically is a scatter. To start with, the symbol will activate the Free Spin feature. During that feature, the scatter will increase your level and let you access even better wins.

If you take a quick glance at the paytable, you will notice that there are some major hits waiting for you. The best symbol can be worth 400x your wager. Then you notice that these wins are not available in the base game and most of the wins you will be getting are tiny. The best are reserved for the higher levels of the Free Spin feature.

The game has high volatility and you can tell that pretty easily. Everything revolves around the free spins and the rest is pretty meaningless. I mean, if you have a full-reel wild available for every single spin, you know something is up.

Features

  • Wild Walker: Zombie wild is following you around

Wild Walker is a clever name, which made me chuckle the first time I noticed this feature. There is a zombie walker always somewhere on the reels and it walks around randomly. At the start of every spin, it chooses a random reel and walks there. The zombie is a three symbols tall wild that covers the entire reel.

  • Progressive Free Spins: Play on an ever-growing field

The Free Spin feature in Wild Walker is amazing. It has so much packed in one feature and there is a lot of potential for giant wins. Just get at least three Bonus symbols and you get 8 spins on level 1. Getting more will not give you extra spins, but you get to start at a higher level.

The big thing about this feature is the possibility to expand your playfield. You can unlock more reels and get more zombies on the reels by levelling up. You need three Bonus symbols to get to the next level and you also get two extra spins each time.

If you manage to get to level 4, you have a chance to hit the big wins. The best symbol is worth 400 times your bet if you get eight of them on one payline.

  • Level 1: You play with 5 reels and 1 Wild Walker
  • Level 2: You play with 6 reels, 1 Wild Walker and reel 1 is a locked wild
  • Level 3: You play with 7 reels, 1 Wild Walker and reels 1 and 2 are locked wilds
  • Level 4: You play with 8 reels, 1 Wild Walker and reels 1, 2 and 3 are locked wilds

Final Thoughts

Simply put, Wild Walker is a beautiful slot with some innovative features. There is enough to do here to keep the game interesting, and you’ll always want to get just one more go at the free spins.

What I think is the biggest factor here is the volatility. If you like your slots to have big swings and a lot going on, then you are going to love Wild Walker. If you want some order and predictability, don’t even bother with this one. This slot is full of action and is a great choice for the risk-takers among us.

And me? I enjoyed this game a lot, even though I didn’t get that big win. Someday I will return and those zombies are going to pay, literally.
