Play’n Go describes Wild Frames as a “stylish, easy-to-play game,” but I didn’t fully agree with that statement. The style shows through the sharp graphics and attention to detail, but it took me some time to understand all the Wild Frames game features and how they work together. As a result, the gameplay is not as straightforward as I expected.
If I had to choose a theme for Wild Frames, I would reluctantly classify it as classic/retro. But, other than the symbols and sounds, there’s nothing traditional about Wild Frames.
Design
The purple cascade backdrop gives Wild Frames a subtle and elegant look that serves the other game elements, which almost seem to float on the screen. These include the big 7×7 grid, the Charge Meter to the right, and a board that shows the winning symbol combinations to the left.
The Wild Frames game controls are all set on a semi-transparent control panel at the bottom of the screen. As far as the layout and arrangement of game elements go, Play’n Go did a great job.
With a huge 7×7 grid containing 49 symbols, the Wild Frames screen could have easily looked like a big mess. But thankfully, attention to detail makes for a clean and functional design. It takes at least 5 matching classic-slot symbols to form a Cluster Win on Wild Frames. For a maximum win, you will need to land at least 30 matching symbols in a cluster as follows:

Complementing the retro look and feel of its symbols, the Wild Frames slot background tunes reminded me of the smooth jazz radio stations of the 80s. Winning combinations make a gentle swoosh sound, and a rather mechanical female voice announces ‘Big Win’, ‘Wild Card’, ‘Shatter’, and other bonus features when they occur.
While I enjoyed the elevator/lobby music and thought it fits nicely with the slot’s retro theme, younger players I’ve spoken to found the Wild Frames tunes too slow and dated for such a high volatility slot.

Wild Frames is also available on mobile. Although all the features work well, and the solid game layout makes things easy to find and tap on, the big grid and many symbols were a bit small to watch on a mobile screen.
The Wild Symbol is the star of the Wild Frames gameplay, with every Golden W creating a sticky frame on the symbol position it lands on. Once the Wild Frame bonus feature is active, a new Wild that lands on the same frame will trigger a progressive multiplier that starts at 1x and can climb up to 9x. Additionally, 4, 5, or 6 random Wilds can be added to the reels after losing spins to create more winning combinations.
The Charge Meter to the right of the grid counts the points you collect after each spin and will reset and start counting from zero again after every losing spin. You will receive 1 point for every winning symbol and will need to collect a certain amount of points to trigger the following bonus rounds:
As Wild Frames has Cascading Wins mechanics, the first three bonus rounds build up towards the Wild Frames feature, which is the main event on the reels. Once you get 80 points on the Charge Meter, all the frames burst with Wilds and Multiplier Wilds. If you top up the Charge Meter above 80 points, you will get 2 extra frames for every 10 additional points.
