The Wild Chase is a slot that takes inspiration from the life of high-stakes heists and everything that entails. Follow a motley crew of burglars and thieves as they use free spins, sticky wilds and multipliers to get away with some big crimes.

This game was developed and released by Quickspin in 2016 with a fair amount of fanfare, as the slot boasts some very nice graphics as well as a sturdy collection of features. The base game is built around a standard 5-slot, 3-reel playing field with 25 paylines. The art is hand-drawn and looks great, featuring completely original drawings for all the symbols in the game.

In the background, we can see what appears to be a Meditteranean town that fits the idea of the slick heist movies this game is based on. When we activate the free spins mode we are shown barrelling down the highway along the coast. Unfortunately, all of the backgrounds, as well as the symbols themselves, are static. Some extra animations would have been nice to see.

The music in The Wild Chase comes with a big wink aimed at the setting, with a slick 80s electronic song playing in the background. Wins trigger other sound-effects that remind us of that time period but aren’t exclusively used for specific symbols. You’re just bombarded with a general soundscape of sounds and tunes that bring you into the mood.

Symbols

The Wild Chase features a set of completely original symbols, divided into high-paying characters and low-paying items. All of the items are related to big heists done in flashy ways. The characters are nicely drawn but unfortunately aren’t fleshed out at all. It would have been nice to see them portrayed as the getaway driver, the locksmith, the cat burglar, but instead, we just see generic faces staring at us.

The symbols are from highest to lowest:

  • Bonus: Get 3 or more Bonus symbols to activate the Free Spins mode.
  • Wilds: Wilds substitute all regular symbols in the game.
  • Blonde Man: Max. 2x your bet with five-of-a-kind on a winning bet line.
  • Red-Haired Woman: Max. 1.6x your bet with five-of-a-kind on a winning bet line.
  • Brunette Woman: Max. 1.2x your bet with five-of-a-kind on a winning bet line.
  • Dark-Haired Man: Max. 1.2x your bet with five-of-a-kind on a winning bet line.
  • Diamonds: Max. 0.96x your bet with five-of-a-kind on a winning bet line.
  • Car Key: Max. 0.96x your bet with five-of-a-kind on a winning bet line.
  • Watch: Max. 0.8x your bet with five-of-a-kind on a winning bet line.
  • Ring: Max. 0.8x your bet with five-of-a-kind on a winning bet line.
  • Stack of Bills: Max. 0.6x your bet with five-of-a-kind on a winning bet line.

The payouts per win are extremely low, but there are several features that change the outcome of a single spin. This combination creates Medium Volatility, and in my experience, my funds did stay pretty even throughout my time playing the game. To influence the size of your wins you can pick a bet between $0.25 and $100 per spin.

Features

The Wild Chase has a number of features that augment the gameplay both in the base game and the free spins mode. Most of the game will take place in the base game, but fortunately, the slot isn’t too stingy with granting access to the free spins mode either. Both are good for bigger wins, but the free spins mode obviously makes it easier.

The features include:

  • Wilds: Wilds substitute all regular symbols in the game.
  • Re-Spins: Whenever there is a win, a re-spin is immediately triggered. If the re-spin creates another win, the game continues with re-spins until no new wins are generated.
  • Sticky Symbols: During the re-spin phase, the winning symbols become sticky. Additional symbols will also become sticky as long as a win is created.
  • Multiplier: During the re-spins, every win will increase the multiplier by 1, up to a maximum 5x multiplier.
  • Free Spins: Getting 3 Bonus symbols on the screen at the same time will activate the Free Spins mode. During the Free Spins mode, every spin has one guaranteed Multiplier Wild.

Although the payouts for a normal win are very low, the automatic respins make it more likely that the player will make back more than just their original bet. Having the winning symbols become sticky makes it increasingly possible to get bigger wins. At the same time, the multiplier is increased with each successive win.

In my experience, this would never result in huge wins even as there were several respins in a row, but they were definitely enough to make back a good number of spins. This allows the player to play for longer with the prospect of activating the free spins mode at any time.

When the free spins mode is activated, much of it works the same way as during the base game. Both the respins and multiplier functions are active and can result in bigger wins. An addition that is unique to the free spins is the Multiplier Wild.

This will appear every spin but still needs to be part of a win to apply the multiplier. This Multiplier is also only applied to the win they’re a part of, and not to all wins in that spin like the other multipliers.

Conclusion

The Wild Chase is probably one of the better known Quickspin slots and with good reason. It looks great, with a lot of attention to detail but unfortunately not as many animations as I would have liked. Everything is created originally for the slot, and it sets the mood and theme very well.

The features are well done and appealing, making the gameplay high-speed in a way that again fits the setting. The Respins function is frequently a source of bigger wins, and the multiplier feature works very well in combination. The Free Spins mode isn’t prevalent but when it did show up it helped me in further propping up my funds.

The max. win of 250x your bet is very low but does feel attainable, and shows that the game doesn’t require a lot of things to go perfectly to get the jackpot. All in all, I think a lot of people will enjoy this slot like I did with its simple but effective classic gameplay and familiar features.
