Golden Girls is not about the popular 80s show with the sassy elderly women but instead focuses on the so-called ‘beach babes’ that live their lives on the beach, catching waves and sun!
This game with a rather striking sunny theme and a lot of attractive women in skimpy outfits was created by Booming Games and released back in 2017. It seems they sometimes like adding a bit of sex appeal to their slots, exemplified by their other game Valley of Pharaohs. I did think it fit the theme a bit better here though, it’s not that strange to wear a bikini on the beach!
There is a 5-reel, 3-row playing field to play with, which is standard for this developer, coupled with the usual 20 paylines. It makes the symbols quite large and the player keeps a good overview of the game. Most of the symbols are uniquely made for the game, with the Wild and Scatter symbols easily distinguishable thanks to the text on them.
The background doesn’t show much. After looking at it for a little bit I realised it was representing a white beach with at the top the start of the ocean. The characters are well-drawn while the various random items are also unique to the game. Unfortunately, they have used high-cards for the lower-paying symbols which don’t fit the setting.
All the symbols in Golden Girls were brightly coloured and were easy to tell apart. There was some movement when there’s a win because of the animations, even though most of them were subtle. The biggest animation was the Stacked Wild which showed a rotating surfboard. I did find it odd how the Stacked Wild would be on top of other symbols and not replacing them.
From highest to lowest they are:
That’s quite a lot of symbols which would on their own mean high volatility, but thanks to some clever features we can look forward to Low Volatility on this slot. There are some higher paying symbols but there is a huge difference with the low-paying symbols which are the ones that are most common.
When it comes to the features of Golden Girls you don’t have to expect anything too shocking, but Booming Games did change things up slightly. First the overview:
The features are all familiar to even the casual player but as always it’s the combination that counts. In this case, the biggest surprise to me was the Stacked Wilds on reel 4. They did help quite often with getting a bigger win, and it makes a three-of-a-kind win almost impossible. I say almost because it does happen that one of the 3 symbols is a Scatter Symbol, but it’s not always.
The normal Wilds show up regularly enough to be helpful, especially considering some of the high-paying symbols only need 2 on a payline to count as a win. This did help a lot in getting wins and helped with the low volatility.
When it came to the free spins, they showed up fairly often without being too common while also being a big enough part of the game to feel like an addition to the slot.
If you enjoy some beautiful women on your reels while you play a classic slot you can’t go wrong with Golden Girls. The graphics are nice, especially compared to some of Booming Games’ other slots while the game plays nice and smooth. The features are rather simple but do a good job at adding some extra colour to the game.
With the ability to choose a bet between $0.01 and $200 per spin players have plenty of room to experiment their preferred amount while the max. win of 1,894x your bet is on the high side when compared to other Booming Games slots.
As always though, if you’re a player looking for the absolute best graphics, most creative features and mind-altering bonus games you won’t find them here. Golden Girls is very much created for the players that enjoy a classic experience without too much surrounding the base game and that’s exactly what it provides.
