Fortune Teller brings us to a carnival where the different mysteries of the past, present and future are exposed. Let’s see if there are any big wins in my future!

Fortune Teller is one of the older Play ‘n GO slots, originally released in 2012. The game boasts a classic 5-reel, 3-row playing field with a total of 20 paylines. The game is set in the back-end of a carnival, the large tent hiding the eponymous fortune teller and her many trinkets.

In the background, we can see the tent and the surrounding trailers while the front is filled with different mythical symbols. The art is hand-drawn which helps keep it relevant but the graphics are starting to look outdated nonetheless. The art style isn’t really my preference but the quality is still fine.

Fortune Teller slot win combination

If you’re a fan of the mythical nature of fortune tellers, enjoy pretending you’re at a carnival or just like a classic slot with a bonus game and free spins, I would recommend Fortune Teller. If you’re looking for a more modern take on this setting, perhaps you could try Wicked Circus by Yggdrasil. If you enjoy the idea of a mythical slot, there is, of course, a wide selection of slots to choose from. My favourite is probably Mythic Maiden by NetEnt.

The music is rather muted, with only the occasional guitar cord when there is a win. The only time there was really any music was when I activated the bonus game or the free spins mode. Other than that, the most prevalent sound effect was the chirping of crickets.

Symbols

Fortune Teller has the usual division of symbols: the lower-paying ones are cards while the higher-paying ones are original. The original ones do fit the setting of the slot with black cats, zodiac wheels and candles. The card symbols are redesigned but stay close to the usual design.

Some of the symbols are animated, like the cats meowing when they’re part of a payline, but these animations are only slight.

The symbols are from highest to lowest:

  • Scrying Orb (Wild): Substitutes all other symbols in the game except Free Spins and Bonus. Max. 5,000 coins when five-of-a-kind on a winning payline.
  • Black Cat (Free Spins): Get 3 or more on the screen at the same time to activate Free Spins mode. Act as Scatters for wins. Max. 300 coins when five-of-a-kind on a winning payline.
  • Cards (Bonus): Get 3 or more symbols on the screen to activate the bonus game.
  • Gypsy: Max. 1,000 coins when five-of-a-kind on a winning payline.
  • Eye in Hand: Max. 500 coins when five-of-a-kind on a winning payline.
  • Zodiac Wheel: Max. 500 coins when five-of-a-kind on a winning payline.
  • Candle: Max. 250 coins when five-of-a-kind on a winning payline.
  • Ace: Max. 150 coins when five-of-a-kind on a winning payline.
  • King: Max. 150 coins when five-of-a-kind on a winning payline.
  • Queen: Max. 100 coins when five-of-a-kind on a winning payline.
  • Jack: Max. 100 coins when five-of-a-kind on a winning payline.
  • 10: Max. 100 coins when five-of-a-kind on a winning payline.

I appreciated that 2 of the 3 special symbols also contributed to winning paylines. The black cat symbol acts as a scatter and already grants a win with only 2 on the screen.

Fortune Teller slot wild feature

Features

For an older game, Fortune Teller still has quite an assortment of features. There are both a Free Spins mode and a Bonus Game.

The features are:

  • Wilds: The Scrying Orb symbol acts as a Wild in the game. They substitute all other symbols in the game, except for the Free Spins and Bonus Game symbols. They also show up during the Free Spins mode.
  • Free Spins: The Black Cat symbol acts as a scatter during the base game. 2 or more will award a win, while 3 or more will activate the Free Spins mode. Triggering Free Spins mode will grant the player 15 Free Spins. During Free Spins mode, the Black Cat symbols count as a Wild, but won’t grant more Free Spins.
  • Bonus Game: When there are 3 or more Bonus symbols on the screen it will activate the Bonus Game. During the Bonus Game, players have to choose 3 different cards. Any matches will award a win.

The Free Spins mode is pretty much the same as the base game, except the Black Cat symbol no longer triggers more Free Spins but acts as a Wild. It also doesn’t function as a Scatter anymore during this mode, either. The 15 Free Spins I got were quite a lot but the experience is pretty much the same as the usual game.

Meanwhile, the Bonus Game is quite a departure from the base game. It brings us inside the fortune teller’s tent and has her spread out different tarot cards. As a player, you’re allowed to pick 1 of 4 cards, 3 times in total. Just picking 3 cards will give you a 5x win. Meanwhile, any doubles or triples add a bigger win. This can go up to 1,000x your initial bet.

I thought the Bonus Game was the most interesting part of the game. It has an entirely fresh set of symbols for the different cards. Just getting into the Bonus Game will result in a small win, but pick right and it can quickly increase.

Conclusion

Fortune Teller is an older game but compared to other games from that era it holds up pretty well. The game has nice imagery and a unique collection of symbols, especially in the bonus game. I like how the game stays close to its theme, making the player feel like they’re at a carnival interacting with a fortune teller.

The features add some longevity to the game experience, which is mostly just a generic classic slot. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but they also don’t really test the developer’s creative muscles. With the addition of some fun features, it makes me want to keep playing longer.

The game lets you play with bets between $0.01 and $100. Coupled with Medium Volatility and a max. win of 5,000x your bet that can result in quite a hefty win. In my time playing, I found that the Free Spins mode and Bonus Game were the most consistent in giving wins. Since they trigger quite often, I thought it was a good tradeoff.
