Divine Dreams is a rather mythical slot that doesn’t really operate with any kind of narrative but is more interested in setting a mood. Watch a series of carved stones spin on a reel while the player benefits from multipliers, free spins and wilds.
This slot was released in 2019 by development studio Quickspin who were seemingly in the mood to try something a bit more ethereal. The 5-reel, 3-row playing field is mostly filled with different types of stones, some carved into rough animal shapes while others are engraved with a rune. On the side, we can see a multiplier that is applied to every spin individually.
Whenever there’s a win on 1 of the 243 paylines the multiplier that is currently selected is applied. Getting a Wild on the screen will happen only when the multiplier tracker lands on them. Overall, the graphics are suitably sharp and beautifully hand-drawn with the background only showing a rock face with green leaves surrounding it.
With this combination, the game does feel rather dreamlike and we are given the impression it might be either part of some sort of meditation or perhaps this is what we might see in a dream. Either way, it feels suitably mystical and ill-defined to fit the bill. The music also plays a big part in this setting, sounding very dreamlike with a beautiful vocalist singing in the background.
Divine Dreams uses a collection of symbols that don’t really make a lot of sense outside of the dream setting. There are high-paying carved stones and low-paying runed stones. They look like they were plucked from a pond and inscribed in some way. This does make it feel more mystical but it’s also harder to describe. With the use of colours, the game does make it possible to tell them apart quite easily.
The game features High Volatility which means that players will either need to wait a long time to get a big win, or that wins, in general, are rather difficult to get. In my experience, the game does let the player get smaller wins quite often but they won’t be enough to compensate for their spins. For that, the player will need to get a bigger win with a suitable multiplier at the same time.
To help deal with this volatility somewhat the player can choose to augment their bet. The game allows a bet between $0.20 and $100 per spin. Players who are new to this slot or have limited funds would do best to start off low and get a grasp of the gameplay. If you are familiar with this slot or have more funds available, a higher bet might pay off in the long run.
The symbols in the game are:
Divine Dreams has some interesting ideas when it comes to the way the game plays. Fans of traditional slots will probably feel a little uncomfortable. The game has the following features:
The Feature Tracker plays a big part in the game and will determine which kind of features are activated. Only the free spins mode is activated through traditional means, by getting 3 or more Bonus symbols on the screen at the same time. During the free spins mode, additional features are added to the tracker.
I found the tracker to be quite interesting but the implementation is a bit lacking. The tracker will usually enable a random multiplier to that spin’s winnings. This can increase the size of the win considerably but the maximum multiplier during the base game is 6x your win and as you can see above the payouts are rather low. Even with such a multiplier players will often still only walk away with a handful of spins paid back.
The free spins mode is more interesting but difficult to activate. I only managed to do it 2 or 3 times during my time playing. The game will not change considerably except that the features on the tracker are expanded.
The main ones here are the option to land on extra free spins, which will grant the player 2 more free spins or the re-spins feature which will simply spin the reels again with higher multipliers.
Divine Dreams is an excellent slot for people who don’t really care about a specific storyline but rather enjoy slots that create a certain mood. The game does a good job at making you feel comfortable and has a dreamlike quality to it.
The gameplay is in rather stark contrast with that. Instead of going for a more classic experience that players can easily get into, it introduces some new concepts that aren’t very common yet. Not that these features are hard to figure out but they do demand some attention from the player.
Either way, if you’re interested in a slot with a certain look and feel, this might be the game for you. As an aside, the game offers a theoretical maximum win of 741,490x your bet which should be interesting enough for anyone to give it a try.
