Journey into a world of mighty gods and mystical symbols in Play’n Go’s Dawn of Egypt released in February 2020. This classic-looking 5-reel, 3-column slot comes with a standard 10 paylines.
This game is (once again) set in Ancient Egypt. I know that this is a popular theme but it’s at the point of saturation and I simply cannot get excited. Don’t get me wrong, the symbols here are incredible. Every tile has been meticulously designed.
The backdrop is gorgeous and so are the animations. The soundtrack too is beautiful. There’s little you can fault when it comes to the presentation. However, both theme and mechanics have been done over and over again, even by this same provider. The one thing which makes this game stand out is the possibility of unlimited free spins within the bonus round. But is that enough to set it apart from all the other clones?
High-paying symbols are intricately designed, the highest paying symbols look regal and have a gorgeous animation to them. Even the low-paying symbols, which use card suits, have been beautifully designed.
The symbols, from highest to the lowest consist of:
Land 3 scatter tiles on the reels and you will trigger the bonus round. A wheel will appear, awarding anything between 3 to 20 free spins. During the bonus round, high-paying symbols will be randomly selected to be upgraded to one symbol creating more chances of winning.
Pyramid spins is only available during the bonus round. Landing two wild scatters (a red and gold scatter tile that also acts as a wild) will trigger this round. These wild scatters will reveal how many spins are awarded. During Pyramid Spins, two or more wild scatters landing on the reels will continue awarding free spins. Pyramid spins will retain the symbol upgrade from the triggering spin.
If you want a slot that is more brutal than Book of Dead then you’ve found it. This slot drained my money so quickly. As I was chasing the bonus rounds, I went through hundreds of spins which left a real dent in my funds.
Then, when I finally entered the bonus round (after 450 spins give or take), I only won a measly 73x. The next bonus came within 150 spins but then the yield was only 45x.
With a max win of just 5,000x, I don’t think this kind of volatility – which is said to be set at 7/10 – is worth it. Play’n GO have similarly volatile slots with higher max wins which are a lot less savage than this.
I’d suggest only playing this if you’re ready to lose money chasing the bonus round. In my experience, the bonus round is extremely weak compared to how tough it is to get into it. And with base game wins hovering between 5x and 7x, you will be bleeding money before you get anywhere. Yes, it is an aesthetically beautiful slot, but it is also merciless.
Dawn of Egypt is available for free play in demo mode at several online casinos. It’s important to note that while playing in demo mode, you won’t have the opportunity to win real money.
