It’s time… to play… the Wheel of Fortune Megaways! This slot, brought to you by BTG is a very classic-looking game that uses the famous Megaways mechanic also developed by BTG. This is a 6-reel slot that can produce up to 7 tiles per reel and the possibility of producing 117,649 ways to win. In the bonus round, the Megaways number can even go up to 1,000,000.

It is based on the popular game show by the same name. And who has never heard of the Wheel of Fortune? This slot uses the same branding together with the sounds which are synonymous with the game show. It has all the glitz you would expect with some classic slot sounds to complement the whole experience.

Symbols

Higher-paying symbols take the shape of a diamond ring and golden vehicles. Lower-paying symbols use card suites which are made to look like precious stones.

The symbols, from highest to the lowest consist of:

  • The scatter tile can appear anywhere on the reels. With 3 or more scatters the free spins round is triggered. The more scatters appear the more free spins are awarded.
  • The Wild tile substitutes for all symbols bar the scatter. It can appear on reels 2 to 5 only.
  • The diamond ring yields 25x with 6 adjacent tiles.
  • The golden plane yields 2x with 6 adjacent tiles.
  • The golden boat yields 1x with 6 adjacent tiles.
  • The golden sports car yields 0.9x with 6 adjacent tiles.
  • The Ace and King yield 0.7x with 6 adjacent tiles.
  • The Queen yields 0.6x with 6 adjacent tiles.
  • The Jack yields 0.5x with 6 adjacent tiles.
  • The 10 and 9 yield 0.4x with 6 adjacent tiles.

Features

  • The Bonus Round

Three or more scatters anywhere on the grid will trigger the bonus round. The amount of free spins is determined by the amount of scatters. Three scatters will give the player 12 spins, 4 scatters;14 spins, 5 scatters; 16 and 6 scatters; 18 free spins.

The round starts with the iconic Wheel of Fortune spin. The spin will land on a Megaways number which will determine the size of the grid the bonus round will start out with. The goal is to increase the tiles on the reels to 10 tiles. This is done by landing golden scatters. Once a reel goes up to 10 tiles the Spin Retrigger activates giving the player even more free spins.

  • Expanding wilds

With every Wild comes the chance of a Wild Megastacks. Every time a Wild appears on the reels it can randomly expand to fill the 7 tiles. Up to 3 Wild Megastacks can appear in the base game creating some amazing wins.

This feature is also available during the bonus round (although there is a maximum of 2 Megastacks per spin instead). During the free spins round the Wild Megastacks will automatically transform into 10 Wild tiles.

Conclusion

The Wheel of Fortune Megaways has high volatility and you will notice this as soon as you start playing. Wins on the base game were scarce. But when I did win, I managed to get some decent wins hovering around the 15x mark. Thanks to the expanding wild which on one spin appeared on reels 2 and 3 I also managed a pretty good yield of 66x. So good wins are also possible in the base game.

But what’s interesting about the Wheel of Fortune Megaways is its possible max win of 80,150x. That’s quite a nice number and you can see the potential of this in the bonus round.

During one bonus round, I started with 14 spins and I only ended up with a 55x win. Then, on another bonus round which started with just 12 spins, I kept hitting the golden scatters. This, together with the expanding wilds I was getting left me with a not-too-shabby 118x win. Yes, it’s a far cry from the max win but you can see how you can reach a good payout if the tiles fall your way.

Although I tend to stay away from classic-looking games I found myself to be quite intrigued by the mechanics of Wheel of Fortune Megaways. I don’t think it’s enough to make it into my favourites list. But I can see how players looking for high volatility slots will make this game their first choice.
