Miami Nights brings us into the sweltering nights of Florida summers, where we found ourselves surrounded by fancy cocktails, a blue ocean and palm trees.
Made by Booming Games and released in 2018, Miami Nights seems to be at least a spiritual sequel to Cuba Caliente and Paris Nights that the developer created earlier. It has the same style of neon graphics and realistic characters to fill the reels.
Speaking of reels, the game has the usual 5-reel, 3-row playing field. There are a total of 20 paylines but in one of the first cases I’ve seen by Booming Games, the paylines can Pay Both Ways! This essentially doubles the number of paylines and also helped with the volatility. The game is listed as having Medium Volatility which was close to my experience when playing the game.
The graphics are sharp and bright, with all of them made exclusively for the game. Set in Miami, the symbols help in setting that mood. That was necessary too since the background is pitch black. Even though it helps in making the neon look brighter, it did feel like the easy way out.
Musically Miami Nights uses a soundtrack that’s very similar to Cuba Caliente. That makes sense, of course, a lot of Cuban immigrants live in Florida and they’re located close together. Still, it might have helped the slot a little bit if it differentiated itself more. Nonetheless, the music sounds fine and helps with setting the atmosphere.
I thought the symbols in Miami Nights look nice and I always appreciate it when a developer creates completely original ones for their slot. It’s no different here, with symbols that invoke the idea of a fun-filled night on a Miami beach.
From highest to lowest they are:
The payouts are pretty low but that’s partly because I got more than 1 payline at a time with most wins. The Win Both Ways mode is something that needs to be enabled by getting the right symbols on the screen but once it’s activated it will help get additional wins. With a five-of-a-kind win, it even counts it from both sides.
Booming Games has a number of features it really likes and thus includes it in most of their games. Some of these show up here, while one of the features I hadn’t seen before.
The features are:
I found the combination of features in this slot work well together. It’s too bad the Pay Both Ways feature isn’t activated all the time of course, but it does help in creating wins once it does activate. During my time playing it would show up semi-regularly, meaning it wasn’t a huge part of the game but rather an exclamation mark.
Similarly, the Free Spins mode wasn’t extremely rare but didn’t show up that often either. Then again, when it did show up it would help in getting my funds up. It’s too bad that the Free Spins can’t be re-triggered but the Pays Both Ways feature can.
The game runs rather smoothly, giving a quick look at the winning paylines and showing the total value of the win at the bottom of the first symbol on the payline. Getting a big win pauses the game to play a special animation. It’s all pretty simple compared to larger games but it still does a great job in communicating your wins.
Miami Nights is a continuation of the way Booming Games has developed most of their slots but in this case, they found a way to make it stand out a little more than usual. The graphics are unique and distinct, with the music being rather simple but still adding to the atmosphere.
The features are arguably the best part of the game as they help in creating a steady but enjoyable experience. The wins weren’t too frequent, owing to the volatility, but when they did happen they tended to help put my balance in the positive. Of course, this could change quickly as well.
Players that have enjoyed other Booming Games, or who think their slots will appeal to them are wise to try out Miami Nights. It’s one of the better examples of their work. Players have the ability to choose a bet between $0.20 and $60 to find something they’re comfortable with. The max. win of 5,780x your bet is also a lot higher than other games by this developer.
