Let your mind wander and relax, and don’t lose your cool if you hit the million-dollar jackpot in Mega Fortune Dreams.

Mega Fortune Dreams is an updated version of NetEnt’s legendary Mega Fortune. The original was released in 2009 and Dreams came out in 2014. The five-year difference here means a lot since during that time online slots made huge technical strides.

The newer Mega Fortune Dreams improves the game in every aspect. The visuals are better, there are more features and the game is better suited for mobile. It has its own jackpot, and it too is over a million dollars like its predecessor.

So the big question here is, is this just a superior version to Mega Fortune? In many ways, yes. There are still some aspects that made people want to stick with the original, but all and all, Mega Fortune Dreams is the best Mega Fortune in my books.

Graphics and sound

Mega Fortune Dreams looks and sounds amazing. The game takes place on a deck of a luxury yacht and the atmosphere is relaxing. Everything is opulent and you can just revel in the riches.

What I really like about it is the music. The song you hear is short and simple, but loops perfectly to create a dreamlike feel. You can just feel the stress melt away.

Everything is tied together perfectly. Nothing looks out of place and the ambient sounds enhance the experience.

Main game and mechanism

Mega Fortune Dreams brings to the table something old and something new. If you have played Mega Fortune, you know some of them already.

The game has ten regular and three special symbols. Wins are from the left side only and only the best combination is paid.

Wilds substitute any other normal symbol on a payline and they can start a re-spin. If you get at least three wilds anywhere on the reels, they are locked in place and you get a free re-spin.

Scatters are here for the free spins feature. Get at least three scatters anywhere and the free spins mode can begin. Three scatters give you 10 spins, four 15 and five 20 free spins. Free spins start with 3x multiplier and it can get as high as 10x. Every scatter symbol you get during the free spins can either increase the multiplier by one or two, or they can give you up to three new free spins.

Bonus symbols appear on the last three reels. If you get at least three of them anywhere on the reels, you start the bonus game. It is a lucky wheel game, where you can win either a cash prize or one of the three jackpots.

Symbols and wins

The symbols are now even more luxurious than in the original game. Even the most worthless symbol is diamond-studded. You can just feel the wealth and hope to get some of it for yourself.

The game features the standard number symbols from ten to ace and then five picture symbols, a drink, a bottle of champagne, a purse, a watch and a diamond ring. There are also three special symbols: wild, scatter and bonus.

Compared to the original Mega Fortune, the win table has been tweaked. The big wins got even bigger and the small wins got smaller.

Here is one of the problematic parts of Mega Fortune Dreams and maybe the biggest issue for me. Personally, I don’t think that a higher volatility is a good choice in a game with a top heavy prize structure. You get less attempts to hit it big, and now you really need to hit it big.

Biggest wins you can get in the base game are 2,000 coins with five diamond rings or 5,000 with five wild symbols. The wilds will give even more wins, as they will trigger the re-spin if this was the first spin.

The biggest reason why we are all here is, of course, the jackpots. The game features three progressive jackpots, Rapid, Major and Mega. All are accessible through the bonus game and the further you make in it, the bigger jackpot you can get.

The Mega Jackpot seeds at one million dollars and the jackpot is not networked. This means that every casino will have their own growing jackpot. The Mega Jackpot is usually won around the 2-3 million dollar mark and the largest win ever was 5.5 million euros, or roughly 4.9 million dollars.

Features

  • Wild Re-spin: Every time you get at least three wild symbols on the screen at once, you trigger a free re-spin. You don’t even need to win anything with them. The wilds are stuck in place and everything else is spun again.
  • Free Spins: The scatter symbols give you free spins and you need at least three to get started. During the free spins, the scatter symbols improve your multiplier or give you more free spins.
  • Bonus Game: If you hit three bonus symbols on reels 3, 4 and 5 in any order, you start the bonus game. It is a four-tiered lucky wheel with the Mega Jackpot as a topper. On each tier, you can hit a cash prize, jackpot or an arrow that takes you to the next tier.
  • Three Jackpots: Mega Fortune Dreams has three progressive jackpots, Rapid, Major and Mega. You can win them all from the bonus game. Mega Jackpot is seeded at one million dollars and it is not a networked jackpot.

Final Thoughts

I love Mega Fortune Dreams. I was a big fan of the original game, but this is just an improvement all around. Sure, I don’t like the higher volatility of Mega Fortune Dreams, but that is about the only thing that is worse.

There is no beating around the bush. We all know why we play games like these and that is the massive jackpot. I have heard people complain that Mega Fortune Dreams is not as big as the original was, but I don’t think it needs to be. If you start to compare a jackpot of two million dollars to a one of five million, you are just splitting hairs. When you hit seven figures, you have enough.

This game left me with a relaxed feeling and a yearning to go back. Even when I wasn’t winning anything, I wasn’t stressing it too much. Whether this is a good or a bad thing, I’m not that sure.
