In Gator Gold you will be wrestling with more than just alligators. There is a whole host of animals lurking in this 6-reel, 4-row slot with 4,096 ways to win. This means that as long as you have 3 or more consecutive symbols on the reels from left to right, you will register a win, no matter their row position.

Gator Gold also uses the Gigablox mechanic where, with every spin, some of the reels will transform into 2×4 blocks or bigger. These reels pay out like multiple symbols of a single kind and at least 1 Gigablox is guaranteed per spin, which can create some awesome wins.

gator gold playing process

Gator Gold has a sleek and clean interface. It is set in what looks like the plains of Africa which – nerd alert – is incorrect as alligators only live in the US and China. But let’s give Yggdrasil some artistic licence here. I guess Gator Gold Gigablox sounds a lot better than Croc Gold Gigablox.

Higher-paying symbols are all pictured as native African savannah animals and the background music follows suit. The Gigablox animation is faultless and creates a smooth effect with every spin.

Symbols

Zebras, meerkats, cheetahs and more can be found in this slot but it is the Golden Gator that will pay out the highest. Best of all it also pays with just 2 symbols.

The symbols, from highest to the lowest consist of:

  • The Free Spins symbol will trigger the bonus round when 5 or more of these symbols appear anywhere on the reels.
  • The Gator Gold Wild substitutes for all symbols bar the scatter.
  • The Golden Gator yields 6x with 6 matching adjacent tiles.
  • The cheetah and wildebeest yield 5x with 6 matching adjacent tiles.
  • The meerkat yields 4x with 6 matching adjacent tiles.
  • The zebra yields 3.5x with 6 matching adjacent tiles.
  • The ace yields 3x with 6 matching adjacent tiles.
  • The king yields 2.5x with 6 matching adjacent tiles.
  • The queen yields 2x with 6 matching adjacent tiles.
  • The jack yields 1.5x with 6 matching adjacent tiles.
  • The ten yields 1.2x with 6 matching adjacent tiles.
  • The nine yields 1x with 6 matching adjacent tiles.

Features

  • The Bonus Round

With 5 or more Free Spins symbols the bonus round is triggered. The amount of free spins in the round is equivalent to the number of Free Spins tiles on the reels. Extra free spins are accumulated when Free Spins tiles show up on the reels during the bonus round.

  • Multiplier Wilds

During the bonus rounds, two new tiles will substitute the Gator Gold Wild. These are the x2 and x3 multipliers which substitute for all symbols bar the free spins and multiply the win they take part in.

Conclusion

Gator Gold Gigablox is a lot of fun. There is something about this game that is incredibly entertaining and strangely soothing. I put it down to the animation which happens at the start of every spin when the Gigablox are forming.

What isn’t soothing is the volatility which is cranked up to ultra-high. We’re talking about 97/100! Yes, there is a max win of 20,000x but I didn’t even come close while playing this. I put in the hours here and I found it tricky to get to the bonus round. When I did eventually go in I only ended up with an 18x win which was very disappointing considering all the money I had spent to get there. The second bonus round was slightly better and I ended up with a win of 164x thanks to some x3 multipliers which happened on 1 of the bonus round spins.

Wins in the base game are few and far in between but I found that when these happened they paid out well. The higher wins averaged around 20x. But I also had a win of 135x when the Golden Gator graced me with its appearance.

So hold on to your Panama hats as this slot will be one wild ride. Don’t be fooled by the cute, peaceful exterior of this game as under the hood it looks more like the protagonist, with sharp teeth to match.
